I really love this: the plotty case, the careful and deliberate steps to bring the Rays together, the hot climax and then the scramble to close the case after the mutual epiphany. And I like that Fraser is there for support, but not a distraction. It's well-formed and engaging.

Iggy! I read this a couple of weeks ago and I never commented, sorry. This is beautifully written, vivid and harsh and hot, with a great--if disturbing--case driving it. The unresolved ending made me sad for our boys, delicate flower that I am, but you gave them a great slow build and a lot to build *on*, so I'm keeping my hopes up. :) Nicely done!

It actually took me three attempts to get past the beginning of the story, not because it was bad, but because it was so effective. So bleak. So dark.

Ray getting kicked out by Stella, the ugly set of rapes, murders and kidnappings, his isolation in Chicago, trying and failing to connect with Kowalski who is even more wrecked than him. The way that his time as Langoustini has changed him - "Sure you might mess up the body to send a message..." Ugh.

Kowalski came across as seriously crazed after they visited the prof. And Welsh, during that phone call, made me think that he had put them together to look after each other, to hopefully make something right. The comment about Fraser always making you feel like you were 2nd best - I can believe it.

And then the solution to the murders - that's really horrible, and far too realistic for comfort. But the thing between the Rays is this glimmer of hope, that maybe something can be saved from it all, from their matching empty apartments and empty lives.

So angsty, so on the money, and so very good! The two of them working out the case, Vecchio trying to figure out himself, while at the same time figuring out (and not killing) Kowalski. And Welsh, tired of losing good cops to Canada! *snort* I love your might-be-a-happy-future ending, it's just right!

This is fabulous. Textbook V/K, and implemented so well. Fraser *isn't* right for your Kowalski; he's a beautiful dream who just doesn't work in real life. And Ray and Ray are *right* for each other, scrappy and bitchy and perfect.

Not to mention there's Plot! And a Case! And Kowalski solves it, because his hunches are fantastic! The rest of the story could have been nothing and you'd have had me there.

Oh,wow. This was such a painfully intense story. Both Rays still so raw and broken and wounded. RayK struggling to keep up with Fraser and failing; RayV struggling to keep up with Stella and failing. There were so many parallels between the two of them that it wasn't surprising that they turned to each other. What a wonderful job you did writing this. So impressive.

Oh, Iggy, this was EXCELLENT. I am so in awe of the way you constructed the case - fantastic, gritty detail, complex and confusing. And like other commenters, I LOVE that Fraser was wrong for once and that screwed up Kowalski gets it. I also am a sucker for Kowalski getting his own name wrong. Oh, Ray. *pets*

I adored your Vecchio and his just-getting-on-with-it attitude and I loved watching him and Kowalski work their way to a detente. This was a highly believable take on the development of their relationship. Kudos to you. Also? The sex was hot (and Vecchio masturbating may now be a new kink of mine).

Also, also? How much do I love that you used 'double fisting' in there? A whole damn lot, that's how much. It's a phrase that's got a lot of use for its real and non-intended meanings with a certain set of people I know since university and to see anyone else use it makes me a) happy and b) giggle a lot.

In conclusion: \o/ Rays! \o/ Iggy!

I loved this like mad!!! The sex was hot, of course, and---just everything. I love how they are good partners and how Vecchio wants to salvage that first, before talking about the sex. I love how Kowalski solves the case and Fraser's educated guess is just flat-out wrong. I love their reactions to the crimes (and that the kid is wearing a Fraser-red coat, aaaaahhh) and I love this:

He wasn't even sure who he was protecting: Kowalski from getting hurt, Fraser from sounding like a doofus, or himself from getting in the middle of it.

AHAHAHA! Fraser needs a lot of protection from sounding like a doofus.

This is marvellous! Wonderfully plotty and soooo satisfying, with the Rays sounding perfectly like themselves - this is a definite keeper.

That was excellent. Angsty, hot, plotty, with great Vecchio voice. A very, very satisfying read. Thank you! \o/

Enjoyed this story immensely. First of all, because it's from Ray Vecchio's pov, which I find refreshingly and fun to read, and you wrote his voice so very well. Second, because for the first time, I understand why the Ray/Ray combination can work, and it does work in this story. I'm essentially a Fraser/Kowalski fan but I don't hate Ray Vecchio, and when he's written well, as he is here, I can even love him enough to suspend disbelief to the degree I can believe Ray/Ray. I also agree with the previous comments regarding the excellent plotting, etc. Plus, your Ray Kowalski voice ain't chopped liver, either! Thanks for sharing your lovely work. Love, max

Wonderful story! The case was great- dark and gritty and not easily solveable, and I loved that Fraser's idea was WRONG and that it was Kowlski, despite how screwed up he is in this, it was him that aolved the case. And Vecchio in this- I just adored him.

I love everything about this story! The setup, the case, the no easy answers and nothing elided. Fraser as the big red elephant in the room they don't talk about. Ray's realization that they are not just equals but equivalents (my personal favorite thing about Ray/Ray). The ending which does not tie things up with a bow.

This is such a super story and I really enjoyed it a whole lot.

This is such a rich, delicious, meaty fic. I've read it twice and I still need to reread before I can leave you the kind of feedback you deserve. The short version is: WOW and YAY YOU and THIS IS FABULOUS. Thank you!! You've made me a very, very happy fangirl.
