This is absolutely fabulous. All the details and period touches are totally entrancing, and the slow build-up to romance is wonderful.

Sage, I swear I left an ecstatic comment a few weeks ago when I read (and adored) this the first time. Bah!

I adore this. I love the way you show us this dark, night-time world with it's edge of danger, and I can totally believe the boys in this setting - they're both secret adrenaline junkies. It's wonderfully atmospheric and completely in place, with excellent touches of canon here and there. I particularly liked the "Red suits you" reference.

And the delicious, toe-curlingly slow build-up to the dance and the kiss is wonderful! <3 <3 <3

Wow, very atmospheric. Not being American, there were some details and words I didn't get, but that didn't matter. I like the dancing at the end, and also, the cars as clubs = wonderful.

you are brilliant! it would never have occurred to me in a million years, but the jazz age is PERFECT for ray/ray! they fit right in, and i especially like this description of rayk's reaction to the music (which seems to perfectly fit his jumpy physicality on the show): "Ray didn't know how Vecchio could listen to a band play the new "hot" jazz and not feel his feet start to itch. The music rattled up through Ray's shoes, through his long bones until it was doing flip-flops in his gut." it was a totally FUN and awesome story, thank you!

I can't believe I haven't commented on this yet. Loved this AU, terrific world-building and translation of characters and relationships. I really enjoyed it!

Wow, that was so cool. Ray and Ray and Prohibition and speakeasies and flappers and...wow. I enjoyed that tremendously. Thanks so much for your time and effort!

Wow, what a great AU setting! I can absolutely see the two of them in this csenario. It really makes me want to read a whole novel with Ray and Raimundo in Prohibition-era Chicago.

I love this view of them, so different and delightfully atmospheric and entirely plausible and totally freaking cool. Yay!

I kind of feel like the setting was almost the protagonist in this story: The feel of it was so pervasive throughout. And I mean this in the best of ways: I could smell the cigar smoke, the perfume and liqour. All through the story I almost felt like I was hearing the crackle from old jazz records being played in the background. It worked really well.

And I particularly loved this little part:

Turning to Vecchio, Ray straightened his tie and steeled his nerve. "Dance?" Ray said.

Vecchio looked him square in the eye, a slow smile beginning. "I thought you'd never ask."

"A lot to lose if I was wrong," Ray murmured as Vecchio came near.

...Because, again, it works so well for the times - a neatly understated kind of gentleman's agreement. AND you have them dancing <3

This was a beautiful AU and just so perfect -- warm and romantic without being completely sappy. Loved it!

EEEE! Thank you, oh seekrit writer mine. What a nifty setting for an AU, and I really liked the hint of Strange Bedfellows in the plot. The "translation" of Ray K's and Stella's relationship was very clever and made perfect sense here. I liked it a lot!
