This was such a fun story. Poor Fraser. LOLOLOL. And the fact that the people Ray is watching go to him to complain about the guy who keeps coming around to get information. LMAO
Great stuff.

I love the way you put this story together, and the Ray you draw in it. I can see him, and I really enjoyed reading about him.

Awesome story! Fun and bittersweet, and I'm so glad he stayed friends with Neil who was a terrific OC.
Plus, this- And as long as I live there will be nothing about you that I'll ever box up and hide in the closet." is a gorgeous line.

Found this via crack_van, and I'm so glad I did! Great story, with brilliant character voices. I especially love how Ray gets to be good at his job - surprisingly rare in fic. Thanks for sharing!

Your Gift Keeps Giving
You capture the varieties of terror love can induce with all the pairings in this story. Plus many funny bits. And the advantages of 40 over 20 (which doesn't get written about enough).
Thanks!

this is wonderful in every way! i love punk!ray, and the description of the chicago scene was completely fantastic. and actually, i really liked the resolution with neil, how kind and grown-up he was about it, as contrasting with ray's youthful experience. very, very nice work.

Oh, how cool. There were so many things I loved about this story - starting with the Clash reference in the title! It wss greath that it absolutely killed Fraser for Ray to go off and do this by himself. And all the boxes of Ray's life at 25, packed away and hidden by Stella. Fraser seeing the Sex Pistols! Gah!
The relationship between Ray and Neil is so matter-of-fact and maturing that it's kinda scary. But so good for Ray. And if it's got the advantage of making Fraser jealous...yay.
Ray dealing with a nostalgic Stella was interesting; poor confused Ray. And my favorite part: '...and Lenny's seen him once and we thought he was a cop at first, except he's like freakishly polite and trusting, so now we just think he's insane. Except for Neil, who thinks he's imaginary."' They think Fraser's insane!
And Fraser promising never to box anything of Ray up. Awww. Wonderful job with this, sis. You should be proud.

Mmmm, I loved this! Fraser being so ridiculously bad at getting the punk scene was funny and a little owie, too. But yay! for Ray being able to revisit his punk roots and heal the way he'd been ripped away from the scene before. And yay! for a new friend/fuck who behaves like a mature adult about their relationship (while being adorably bouncy about Ray's old school music lore!). And yay! for Fraser getting off his butt and going for what he really wants, even if it did take jealousy to get there!

I love this so much! Cool, competent, sexy Ray, and sweet, smart Neil, and jealous, kinda desperate Fraser - jeez, even the wolf was worried they were gonna lose Ray to the cool outsider kids!
Ray's angry reminder to Fraser that he's quite capable of doing his job on his own, and not just as the tagalong sidekick was oooo, shivery good!

*suddenly misses being a music scene regular like crazy*
This was freaking amazing! I love Neil. I love Fraser pouting. I love Welsh. I love Ray *doing policework* that he rocks at withOUT Fraser's help. I love Ray/Neil. I love Stella remembering the Ramones show with fondness, and NOT thinking about the crash of their relationship. I love Fraser being an ass. I love Ray standing up for himself. I love Ray's realization about the danger of hooking up with your best friend and how Neil steps up with a convenient solution (because Fraser can make promises all he likes, but a person's gotta have friends, too).
Hello, I love everything about this story!! ♥

I loved the richness of detail in this story, particularly the facts about the Chicago punk scene, but also the look at Stella and Ray's relationship, his friendship with Mike and his relationship with Neil. Heeh, and Fraser trying to be punk? So funny :D

This was fabulous! I don't know much about the punk scene (in any incarnation) but there's a realism and immediacy in this story that plunges you in, and I loved Ray's relationship with Niel, and the way that heals the damaged friendship he shared with Mike. I love love love Fraser being hot and determined and sexay in the alley, and Ray being reluctant to mix sex and friends but, in the end, finding the courage to try it anyway. This was a great, understated fic, and I loved it!

I really enjoyed this!
Punk!Ray is great, and I love the way that the bartender recognized him as a La Mere kid. The image of Stella packing away all of Ray's stuff, all the parts of him that didn't fit into her life, was really powerful.
Neil was a fun OC, and I liked the calm way he handled Fraser hanging around. The image of Fraser lying at home on the couch listening to the Naked Raygun album on a ridiculously low volume, waiting for Ray to get home, made me happy.

Okay, I have to admit that I read this a day or two ago but didn't comment then because I was hoping someone more musically knowledgeable would. *g* ANYway. There is so much about this story that is fantastic - it's so nice to see competent!Ray handling this assignment with relative ease (hee, except for the necessary Fraser-wrangling, and Welsh being Welsh). It's so not your typical bar/club fic, and Neil isn't just another interim-character-until-Fraser&Ray-realize-they-want-each-other. And there are so many good and insightful bits, to quote them all would mean quoting half the story itself.
In conclusion: Mowhawk! Hee! \o/

Oh, this was great fun, and also very thinky in surprising places. I especially liked Fraser (aw, Fraser! You want to help! But you just don't get it!) and Welsh, who I always enjoy, and the details of Ray's punk past. I also kind of liked Neil and was actually worried he'd turn out to be a Bad Guy.

Hi, anonymous author! This is EXACTLY what I wanted, and it's lovely and fun and perfect and the mention of Naked Raygun makes me so happy that I could cry.
Also, there's Fraser being pushy and hot in an alley. And Stella not really getting punk, and Ray having a Ramones shirt, and...I could go on for a really long time.
Over the course of their partnership, Ray had found that the best way to stop Fraser from annoying him was to find something that annoyed Fraser more and get him to focus on it.
Hee! I loved lots of bits, but this made me laugh out loud.
Thank you SO MUCH!
