Thank you so much for a story so sweet I'm *printing* it. This line in particular:
" ... I don't want to spoil it by helping Fraser pack for one of his self-guided guilt trips."
is not only lovely in context, it's a life lesson.

This was very sweet :) Great Kowalski voice, sweet Fraser, and this made me giggle:
*"Diefenbaker informs me that he slept poorly last night. Apparently Sergeant Frobisher's dogs were quite lengthy in offering their farewell wishes."
"I don't even want to know, Fraser."
"To tell you the truth, Ray, neither do I."*
:) Well done!

Prim, this was a beautiful, thoughtful and quietly refreshing take on the post-CotW story formula. Your stories always contain a high level of attention to domestic details that I greatly admire, and so I loved the notion of Fraser and Ray heading off to Fraser's rebuilt cabin. The descriptions of scenery and Ray's slow moment of realization were handled very well, and I like the gentle tone of this fic. Happy New Year, and thanks for the great read!

Adding my kudos in with the rest, excellent story with great character voices. The part about Frobisher finally making plain food so Ray didn't have to sleep with the dogs made me laugh.

Live his life like it's his life and not just some alternate universe he fell into when his Dad got killed.
Yeah, so true. Really, really loved the Ray voice here.

wow. what an absolutely inspired use of that moment in the mine-shaft! i really like the idea of fraser learning something from that, and the story you built around it seems very real, immediate, and very them somehow. your characterization on both of them is great, and romantic in a way that's believable. thank you for the lovely story!

Oh, oh, oh. The lock of hair! Brilliant. Go, Ray! I love the "real life" theme/motif. Beautifully done. Great characterizations. Smart and together Ray and Fraser. Brava.

*bounces around*
I'm not sure I can put into words how great it was waking up this morning and reading this story and all the little things in it that just gave me the warm fuzzies the due south way.
I love your Fraser. He's got the thoughtful, slightly stiff way of speech when he's nervous, he's probably scared but he's dead set on seeing it through. Tenacious as only Fraser can be.
I adore your Ray. He's a little worried, but he knows it's better to give Fraser the time and space to do things his own way and he puts Fraser's well-being over his own. It's one of Ray's finest traits and the one thing that makes me believe in more-or-less happily ever after for these two.
Thank you for such a wonderful gift, Santa ^_~
